Peter, the driving force of Northern Driving School
It’s sad to say, but I’ve been a driving instructor for longer than many of you have been alive! Being a naive 24-year-old, I thought I knew everything about driving. That is, until I took a defensive driving course. It opened my eyes and ignited my passion to become a driving instructor.
So, over 26 years ago, I formed Northern Driving School
I’ve seen a lot in my years of being a driving instructor. I’ve been bunny hopped, I’ve grabbed the panic bar, I’ve seen tears and I’ve heard a lot of swearing.
But what I love seeing the most, is the smiles on my students faces when they finally get their licence. Their excitement is overwhelming and it’s awesome to be a part of it.
And I’m sorry there’s only one of me and I can’t train every student. So I have employed qualified professional drivers who have excellent teaching skills. We promote defensive driving, planning ahead, and positioning your vehicle on the road.

Of course we’re going to teach you how to drive a car. But we’re also going to make sure you’ve learnt the road rules and can drive with confidence.
From your first lesson, right through to your pre-test lesson, we tailor each lesson to you. We note your capability, your time frame, your confidence level and your driving experience.
